It's been errata'd from a 'carriage' (which implies the creature represents the whole unit) to 'Horse', so I guess the flavour of the mechanic is the horses just being lazy until they are 'fed' with a creature

It comes with the clause that any mana can be used to cast it as well, making this card a bit better than some others with a similar ability

A resolved jiaotu summons over 200 different synchro monsters, in more than 500 different possible creatures varying in immunities

Theres really no downside here

Any card that cares about modified creatures or a creature becoming modified can go into an Auras-only deck, and I hope to see more batching things like that
