The Kedarkantha Trek is one of India’s premier winter treks, renowned for its pristine snow-covered landscapes, panoramic Himalayan vistas, and accessibility for both novice and seasoned trekkers. Situated in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, this 5–6 day journey unfolds amidst dense pine forests, frozen alpine lakes, and charming Himalayan villages. Reaching an altitude of 12,500 feet, the trek offers a challenging yet rewarding experience.

Itinerary

Day 1Drive from Dehradun to Sankri

Drive Distance: 220 km | Drive Duration: 9-10 hours approx. | Altitude: Sankri – 1950m | Pick up point: ISBT, Dehradun. | GPS DATA 

Your journey begins early morning from ISBT, Dehradun. Drive through the scenic Yamuna and Tons river valleys, passing towns like Mussoorie, Naugaon, Purola, and Mori. The route offers changing landscapes — pine and deodar forests, apple orchards, and distant snow peaks. By late afternoon, arrive in Sankri, a charming Himalayan village and gateway to Govind Pashu Vihar National Park. Enjoy your first evening with views of Swargarohini peaks and a warm dinner in your guesthouse or homestay.

Day 2Sankri to Juda-ka-Talab

Trek Distance: 5km approx. | Trek Duration: 5-6 hours approx. | Altitude: Juda-ka-Talab – 2800m. | GPS DATA

After breakfast, begin your trek with a gradual climb through dense pine and maple forests. The crisp mountain air, bird calls, and occasional glimpses of snow-clad peaks make the ascent delightful. By afternoon, reach Juda-ka-Talab — a mesmerizing high-altitude lake surrounded by thick forests and open meadows. In winter, the lake often freezes, reflecting the magic of the season. Set up camp here and spend the evening soaking in the stillness.

Day 3Juda-ka-Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp

Trek Distance: 4 km approx. | Trek Duration: 4 hrs approx. | Altitude: Kedarkanta base camp– 3100m. | GPS DATA 

The trail today is shorter but climbs steadily, opening up to wide meadows with spectacular views of snow peaks like Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Black Peak. Reach Kedarkantha Base Camp, nestled in an open clearing with grand views of the Kedarkantha Peak, and you’ll summit tomorrow. Spend the evening acclimatizing, watching the sunset paint the mountains in shades of gold and pink.

Day 4Kedarkantha Base Camp to Kedarkantha Peak, Descend to Hargaon Camp

Trek Distance: 6-7 km approx. | Trek Duration: 7-8 hrs approx. | Altitude: Kedarkantha Peak– 3800m | Hargaon – 2700m. | GPS DATA 

Start your summit push early, often before dawn, to catch the sunrise from the top. The climb is steep but rewarding — as you reach Kedarkantha Peak (3,800 m), the 360° views of the Himalayan ranges are breathtaking, with peaks like Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Black Peak, and Swargarohini in clear sight. After soaking in the views and capturing photos, begin your descent to Hargaon Camp through snow trails and forests. Hargaon offers a peaceful meadow campsite for your last night in the mountains.

Day 5Hargoan to Sankri

Trek Distance: 4 km approx. | Trek Duration: 3-4 hrs approx. | Altitude: Sankri– 1950m. | GPS DATA 

A gentle downhill walk through pine forests leads you back to Sankri. Arrive by late morning, check into your accommodation, and enjoy a relaxing day exploring the village or interacting with locals.

Day 6Drive From Sankri to Dehradun

Drive Distance: 220 km | Drive Duration: 9-10 hours approx. | Altitude: Dehradun – 600m | Drop point: ISBT, Dehradun. 

Drive back through the same picturesque route, retracing valleys, rivers, and forest roads. Arrive in Dehradun by evening, marking the end of your Kedarkantha adventure.

Inclusion

  • Vegetarian throughout the trek, starting from Dinner on Day 1 until Breakfast on Day 6.
  • Forest Permits, Camping Charges, and Trek Permit Fees.
  • All camping Equipment: Tents on twin sharing basis, sleeping bags, mats.
  • A Mountaineering Course and First Aid Certified Trek Leader and guide.
  • An Exhaustive First Aid Kit, including a portable oxygen cylinder, to handle any medical emergencies that may arise during the trek.
  • Achievement certificate (Digital).
  • Guest House stay on Day 1 and Day 5 in Sankri.

With these provisions, we aim to ensure your safety, comfort, and enjoyment throughout your Himalayan adventure.

Exclusion

    • Meals during road journeys are not provided.
    • Any expense incurred for Personal Purposes.
    • Any expense not specified in the inclusion list is not included in the package.
    • We would like to inform you that should you choose to withdraw from the trek, we will be unable to provide reimbursement for any costs related to accommodation or meals.
    • Any kind of Insurance.
    • Transportation from Dehradun to Sankri and back to Dehradun.

Cancellation Policy & Refund Policy

    • Special Cancellation Policy 

           A) We have implemented a special cancellation policy:

    1.  Before 60 Days: 90% Refund.
    2.  31-60 Days: 75% Refund.
    3.  Within 30 Days: 50% Refund.
    4.  Within 14 Days: No Refund.

    Payment & Booking Policy

    A booking fee of ₹5,000 is required to confirm your spot. The remaining trek fee must be paid at least 15 days before the trek start date. If the full payment is not received on time, your booking may be cancelled. The ₹5,000 booking fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.

    Our cancellation policy applies to the entire trek fee, not just the booking amount. For any questions or assistance with payment, feel free to contact us.

           B) Rescheduling Policy

    • Rescheduling Within the Same Trip or Changing the Trek.
    • Rescheduling is subject to availability. Trek costs may vary depending on the location and will be adjusted accordingly.
    • Guests have the option to reschedule their trek and utilize the amount paid within 1 year.

     

    • Refund Process: Refunds will be issued by mail only and processed within 15 business days from the date of cancellation.
    • Unforeseen Changes: In emergencies, we may reroute treks to alternative trails. Mental preparedness for such situations is advised.
    • Documents Required: Trekkers must carry a photocopy of their photo ID, along with mandatory Medical Certificate and Disclaimer forms for trek permissions before and during the trek

FAQ

Do I need any prior experience?

No prior trekking experience is required for the Kedarkantha Trek. It is beginner-friendly, but participants should be reasonably fit and prepared to walk for 6–7 hours a day. We recommend starting basic cardio or endurance training at least one month before the trek. This can include activities like jogging or running for 5 km daily to build stamina and ensure a more enjoyable experience on the trail.

How do I reach Dehradun?

Dehradun is well-connected by:

  • Train: Overnight trains from Delhi.

  • Bus: Volvo or state buses from Delhi ISBT, Kashmiri Gate.

  • Flight: Direct flights to Jolly Grant Airport, just 25 km from the city.

Once you register, we’ll help you plan your travel to the trek starting point- Sankri.

 

Will there be mobile network or internet access?

You’ll have mobile connectivity in Dehradun and the base village of Sankri. Beyond that, the network is patchy or unavailable—ideal for a peaceful digital detox.

Is the trek safe for solo travellers and women?

Absolutely. Nomadic World maintains a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. We frequently host solo travellers and female participants, with trained staff and small-group attention.
 

Can children or senior citizens participate?

Children (10+ years) can join with proper fitness and enthusiasm.

Senior citizens can participate if they are in good health and medically cleared for high-altitude trekking.
