The Phulara Ridge Trek is a rare Himalayan experience located in the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park, Uttarakhand. Standing at an altitude of 12,150 ft (3,704 m), this trek is unlike any other because of its long ridge walk—a feature very few treks in India offer. Instead of climbing to a single summit or crossing a pass, you spend hours walking along the top of a mountain ridge, with 360° panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and valleys on either side.
The journey begins from the picturesque village of Sankri, winding through dense pine and oak forests, blooming rhododendrons (in spring), and wide alpine meadows. The trail gradually ascends to reveal a breathtaking landscape dominated by peaks such as Swargarohini, Kala Nag, Bandarpoonch, and Ranglana.
The highlight of the trek is the Phulara Ridge walk itself—a thrilling experience where you feel as though you’re walking on the edge of the sky, surrounded by towering Himalayan giants and endless rolling valleys. The ridge stretches for several kilometers, making it a unique adventure filled with both serenity and exhilaration.
In addition to its natural beauty, the trek also offers chances to spot Himalayan wildlife like monals, Himalayan griffons, and black bears within the protected forest area.
With a moderate level of difficulty, the Phulara Ridge Trek is perfect for both beginners seeking their first high-altitude adventure and seasoned trekkers looking for something different. Best experienced between May–June and September–October, this trek is a hidden gem that leaves you with memories of walking amidst the clouds.
