Aali Bedni Bugyal is one of the most enchanting alpine meadow treks in Uttarakhand, nestled in the heart of the Garhwal Himalayas. Stretching across vast carpets of lush green grasslands at an altitude of around 3,350 meters (11,000 feet), this trek is a magical blend of natural beauty, mythology, and Himalayan grandeur.
The bugyals (meadows) of Aali and Bedni are famous for their breathtaking views of some of India’s highest peaks, including Nanda Ghunti and Trishul Parvat, which rise like towering sentinels above the rolling pastures. These meadows also hold deep spiritual significance—Bedni Kund, a serene high-altitude lake, is an important site in Hindu mythology, believed to be associated with Goddess Nanda Devi.
What makes the Aali Bedni Bugyal trek truly unique is the diversity of landscapes it offers in such a short span. The trail winds through dense oak and rhododendron forests, charming mountain hamlets, and finally opens into sweeping meadows where wildflowers bloom in summer and the ground turns golden in autumn. Every step feels like walking into a postcard.
The highlight of the trek is camping in the meadows themselves—sleeping under a star-filled sky with the mighty Himalayas as your backdrop is an experience that stays with you forever. In spring, rhododendrons paint the forest in shades of red and pink, while winter transforms the meadows into a pristine snowfield, offering a completely different charm.
Whether you’re a beginner looking for your first Himalayan adventure or an experienced trekker seeking soulful landscapes, Aali Bedni Bugyal delivers the perfect mix of beauty, culture, and serenity. It is more than just a trek—it’s a journey into the heart of Uttarakhand’s alpine paradise.

The adventure begins early morning from Dehradun. The drive takes you along the sacred Alaknanda River, passing towns like Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag—where holy rivers converge to form the mighty Ganga. With every turn, the Himalayas draw nearer, the air gets crisper, and the scenery more enchanting. The road climbs steadily through pine and deodar forests, winding past charming villages and terraced fields.
By evening, you arrive at Lohajung, a quaint mountain hamlet surrounded by thick forests and snow-covered peaks. Legend has it that Lohajung is named after the mythical “war of Lohas (iron)” between Goddess Parvati and a demon. From here, glimpses of Nanda Ghunti peak can be seen on clear days. Settle into your guesthouse, meet your trek leader, and attend a briefing session before resting for the night.

After spending time soaking in the grandeur of Aali Bugyal, continue trekking toward Khobal Tal, a high-altitude lake nestled amidst the meadows. At Bedni Top, panoramic views unfold—Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, and the Chaukhamba ranges stand tall, leaving you spellbound. After spending time in this divine landscape, the trail descends through oak and rhododendron forests to Ghairoli Patal, a picturesque campsite tucked inside the woods.
