The Chopta – Tungnath Trek is a short yet exhilarating Himalayan journey in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, making it ideal for beginners, casual trekkers, and nature enthusiasts. Often referred to as the “Mini Switzerland of India”, Chopta is a pristine alpine meadowland surrounded by majestic peaks, dense forests of oak and deodar, and seasonal wildflowers, offering breathtaking panoramic views at every step.
The trail gradually ascends through lush forests, bubbling streams, and quaint villages, giving trekkers a chance to experience the serene Himalayan lifestyle. The trek leads to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world (3,680 m), which is steeped in mythology, spirituality, and local culture. From there, adventurers can push on to Chandrashila Summit (3,914 m), where the 360-degree Himalayan panorama showcases peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Kedar Peak, and Bandarpoonch, creating a truly awe-inspiring experience.

The journey begins early morning from Dehradun ISBT, as you set off on a scenic drive to Baniyakund, a small village near Chopta and the starting point of the Tungnath–Chandrashila trek. The route winds through the charming towns of Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath, tracing the holy rivers Ganga, Alaknanda, and Mandakini.
As the drive progresses, the landscape transforms from bustling river valleys to serene pine and oak forests. After a full day on the road, you arrive at Baniyakund (2,600 m), surrounded by lush meadows and panoramic views of Himalayan peaks. The crisp mountain air and tranquil setting prepare you for the trek ahead.

After an early breakfast, a short drive from Baniyakund to Chopta (2,800 m) brings you to the starting point of today’s adventure. The trail begins with a gradual ascent through dense rhododendron and oak forests, opening up to meadows that offer mesmerizing glimpses of Himalayan peaks.
Your first stop is Tungnath (3,500 m), the highest Shiva temple in the world and one of the Panch Kedar shrines. The temple, surrounded by spirituality and mountain serenity, makes for a soulful pause. From here, the trek continues with a steep climb to the Chandrashila summit (3,690 m).
At the top, you’re rewarded with a 360° panoramic view of the Garhwal and Kumaon Himalayas, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, and Bandarpunch peaks. The breathtaking scenery, combined with the sense of achievement, makes this moment unforgettable.
After soaking in the views and spending some peaceful time at the summit, you retrace your steps back to Chopta and drive to Baniyakund for an overnight stay in your guesthouse or campsite.

After an early breakfast at Baniyakund (2,600 m), begin your return journey towards Dehradun. The scenic drive takes you through charming Himalayan villages, dense forests, and alongside the gushing Alaknanda and Ganga rivers, offering a final glimpse of Uttarakhand’s natural beauty.
As you descend from the high mountains into the plains, you’ll notice a beautiful shift in landscapes—from crisp mountain air to the warm breeze of the valleys. En route, there will be halts for meals and short breaks.
By evening, you will reach ISBT Dehradun (600 m), where the trek concludes. From here, trekkers can take buses, trains, or flights to their onward destinations, carrying back unforgettable memories of the Chopta–Tungnath–Chandrashila trek and the mesmerizing Himalayan vistas.

A) We have implemented a special cancellation policy:
Payment & Booking Policy
A booking fee of ₹5,000 is required to confirm your spot. The remaining trek fee must be paid at least 15 days before the trek start date. If the full payment is not received on time, your booking may be cancelled. The ₹5,000 booking fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.
Our cancellation policy applies to the entire trek fee, not just the booking amount. For any questions or assistance with payment, feel free to contact us.

No prior trekking experience is required for this trek. It is beginner-friendly, but participants should be reasonably fit and prepared to walk for 6–7 hours a day. We recommend starting basic cardio or endurance training at least one month before the trek. This can include activities like jogging or running for 5 km daily to build stamina and ensure a more enjoyable experience on the trail.
Dehradun is well-connected by:
Train: Overnight trains from Delhi.
Bus: Volvo or state buses from Delhi ISBT, Kashmiri Gate.
Flight: Direct flights to Jolly Grant Airport, just 25 km from the city.
Once you register, we’ll help you plan your travel to the trek starting point- Baniyakund
Mobile connectivity is available up to Baniyakund. Beyond that, there is limited or no network during the trek. It’s a great opportunity to unplug and immerse yourself in nature.
Absolutely. Nomadic World maintains a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. We frequently host solo travellers and female participants, with trained staff and small-group attention.
Children (10+ years) can join with proper fitness and enthusiasm.
Senior citizens can participate if they are in good health and medically cleared for high-altitude trekking.
