Step into the heart of the Himalayas with our Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Ri Trek – an unforgettable journey that combines two legendary trails into one epic adventure.
This extended route is more than just a trek – it’s a passage through some of the most breathtaking landscapes on Earth. Traverse lush green valleys, cross swaying suspension bridges over roaring rivers, and wander through traditional Sherpa villages where prayer flags flutter in the wind. Visit centuries-old monasteries that echo with chants and stories of Himalayan spirituality.
Follow in the footsteps of legendary climbers as you make your way to the iconic Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) – the gateway for those daring to conquer the world’s highest peak. Standing here, surrounded by the giants of the Khumbu, you’ll feel the raw energy of mountaineering history all around you.
But this journey goes beyond the ordinary. After Base Camp, you leave the classic trail behind and venture into the serene Gokyo Valley – a hidden jewel of the Everest region. Marvel at the turquoise Gokyo Lakes, shimmering like gems amidst the high mountains, and cross the mighty Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest in the Himalayas.
The pinnacle of your adventure is the climb to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) – arguably the finest viewpoint in the entire region. From here, a jaw-dropping 360° panorama unfolds: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, four of the world’s highest peaks, all glowing under the golden light of sunrise. It’s a moment that stays with you forever.
This trek is a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty – a true Himalayan odyssey for those seeking more than just Everest Base Camp.
Altitude: Kathmandu– 1300 m.
You arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal’s vibrant capital city. Our representative greets you at the airport and transfers you to your hotel in Thamel – the heart of Kathmandu’s tourist district.
Spend the day soaking in the unique vibe of the city: colorful prayer flags flutter overhead, the air smells of incense and fresh momos, and the streets are buzzing with trekkers, guides, and locals.
In the evening, attend a detailed trek briefing with your leader, covering the route, altitude acclimatization process, safety guidelines, and packing checks.
Drive Distance: 140 Km.approx. | Drive Duration: 3-4 hrs approx.| Trek Distance: 7 km approx. | Trek Duration: 4-5 hours approx. | Altitude: Lukla– 2840m. | Phakding – 2600m. | GPS DATA
Your Himalayan adventure begins! Drive to Ramechhap in the early morning and board a thrilling flight to Lukla, famously known as the gateway to Everest. The flight itself is an adrenaline rush – watch as the tiny airstrip appears between towering peaks!
At Lukla, meet your porters, organize loads, and begin the trek. Today’s walk is a gentle descent along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing iconic suspension bridges decorated with prayer flags. Pass through small villages like Chheplung and Ghat, with prayer wheels, mani stones, and fluttering flags lining the trail.
Arrive at Phakding by afternoon and relax at your first mountain tea house.
Tip: Keep your pace slow today. This helps your body begin the acclimatization process.
Note: Flights to Lukla are weather-dependent and may face delays. We recommend keeping 3–4 buffer days in your overall itinerary.
Trek Distance: 10 km approx. | Trek Duration: 6-7 hrs approx. | Altitude: Namche Bazaar – 3500m. | GPS DATA
Today is one of the most scenic yet challenging days. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi upstream, crossing several high suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Bridge. Pass villages like Tok Tok, Benkar, and Monjo, where you enter Sagarmatha National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The final 2–3 hours are a steep zigzag climb through pine forest. As you round a bend, you may catch your first glimpse of Mt. Everest in the distance – a magical moment for every trekker.
Finally, reach Namche Bazaar, the lively Sherpa capital and the main trading hub of the Khumbu region. Cafés, bakeries, and gear shops make this town feel surprisingly cozy despite being perched high in the Himalayas.
Altitude: Namche Bazaar – 3500m.
Acclimatization is the key to success at high altitude. Take a short hike to Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) or Syangboche Hill for breathtaking vistas of Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse, and Nuptse.
Explore Namche’s narrow streets, visit the Sherpa Cultural Museum, shop for woolen items, or sip hot coffee at a mountain café. This is a perfect day to rest, acclimatize, and fuel up for the days ahead.
Trek Distance: 10 km approx. | Trek Duration: 5-6 hrs approx. | Altitude: Dole – 4050 m. | GPS DATA
Leave the main EBC trail and head towards the quieter Gokyo Valley route. The trail ascends through pine and rhododendron forests, passing through Mong La, where you get superb views of Ama Dablam and Khumbila (the sacred peak of the Sherpas).
Descend to Phortse Tenga, cross a bridge, and then begin a steady climb through lush forests to Dole. The landscape is now more open, and you might spot musk deer or Himalayan monal (Nepal’s national bird).
Trek Distance: 5-6 km approx. | Trek Duration: 4-5 hrs approx. | Altitude: Machhermo- 4400 m. | GPS DATA
This is a short but important day for acclimatization. The trail climbs gently along the valley with views of Cho Oyu, Kangtega, and Thamserku growing clearer.
Arrive in Machhermo, a small settlement with a few lodges. This is also the site of the legendary tale where a Yeti supposedly attacked Sherpas – ask the locals to hear the story!
Trek Distance: 7 km approx. | Trek Duration: 5-6 hrs approx. | Altitude: Gokyo – 4750 m. | GPS DATA
A magical day of trekking! Climb gradually to Pangka, descend briefly, and then ascend steeply onto the moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. Cross a small stream and soon you see the first of the Gokyo Lakes – turquoise jewels set against stark grey moraines.
Reach the third and largest lake, where the village of Gokyo sits beautifully on its shores. This is one of the most photogenic spots in the entire trek.
Trek Distance: Gokyo to Gokyo Ri – 3 km approx. Both ways (Trek Duration: 3-4 hrs approx.) Gokyo to Thonak Pokhari – 6 km approx. Both ways (Trek Duration: 5-6 hrs approx.) | Altitude: Gokyo Ri – 5300m.| Thonak Pokhari: 5000 m. | GPS DATA
Wake up early for the climb to Gokyo Ri, a steep but rewarding ascent that offers one of the best panoramic views in the Everest region – Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the Ngozumpa Glacier all in one frame.
Descend back to Gokyo for breakfast and spend the rest of the day exploring the other lakes, including Thonak Tsho and Ngozumpa Tsho. This is also a good buffer day for acclimatization.
Trek Distance: 8 km approx. | Trek Duration: 5-6 hrs approx. | Altitude: Dragnag -4700 m. | GPS DATA
Today’s trek is exciting as you cross the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalayas. The trail starts with a gentle descent from Gokyo, offering stunning views of the turquoise Gokyo Lakes and towering Cho Oyu.
The glacier crossing is rocky and uneven, with small ascents and descents over moraine and ice – take it slow and follow your trek leader closely. After crossing, a short climb brings you to Dragnag (Thagnak), a small settlement that serves as the base for tomorrow’s Cho La Pass crossing.
Spend the evening resting, hydrating, and preparing for an early start the next day.
Trek Distance: Dragnag to Cho La -5 km approx. (Trek Duration: 4-5 hrs approx.) | Cho La to Dzong La – 4 Km. (Trek Duration: 3-4 hrs approx.) | Altitude: Dragnag -4700 m. | Cho La– 5350m.| Dzong La – 4800 m. | GPS DATA
Start before sunrise for a challenging but unforgettable day. The climb to Cho La is steep and can be snow-covered, requiring microspikes or careful footing. Reaching the top is a triumphant moment – prayer flags flutter against a backdrop of towering peaks.
The descent is tricky and steep, so take your time. After the pass, the trail levels out towards Dzongla, a quiet and beautiful hamlet.
Trek Distance: 6-7 km approx. | Trek Duration: 5-6 hrs approx. | Altitude: Dzong La – 4800 m | Lobuche -4900 m. | GPS DATA
Today’s trail is shorter but incredibly scenic. Walk along a gentle path with dramatic views of Cholatse and Taboche peaks and the valley of Pheriche far below. The route gradually ascends through rocky terrain and glacial moraine, eventually joining the main Everest Base Camp trail.
By afternoon, you’ll reach Lobuche, a small settlement buzzing with trekkers heading towards EBC. Take the rest of the day to relax and soak in the high-altitude atmosphere.
Trek Distance: Lobuche to Gorakshep -6 km approx. (Trek Duration: 3-4 hrs approx.) | Gorakshep to EBC – 3 Km (approx.) each way (Trek Duration: 2-3 hrs approx.) | Altitude: Gorakshep -5200 m. | EBC– 5400 m. | GPS DATA
This is the day you’ve been waiting for!
Trek to Gorakshep, the last settlement on the trail. Drop your bags, rest briefly, then continue along the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier to reach Everest Base Camp. Stand at the foot of the world’s highest mountain and soak in the surreal atmosphere – colorful tents of expedition climbers dot the icefall during climbing season.
Return to Gorakshep for the night.
Trek Distance: Gorakshep to Kala Patthar – 4 km approx. Both way (Trek Duration: 3-4 hrs approx.) | Gorakshape to Pheriche – 10 (Trek Duration: 4-5 hrs approx.) | Altitude: Kala Patthar -5643 m. | Pheriche – 4371m. | GPS DATA
Rise before dawn for the steep climb to Kala Patthar, the best viewpoint for a close-up look at Mt. Everest glowing gold at sunrise. This is a highlight for many trekkers.
Descend back to Gorakshep for breakfast, then trek down to Pheriche. Breathing becomes easier as you descend, and you’ll sleep better at this lower altitude.
Trek Distance: 16 km approx. | Trek Duration: 7-8 hrs approx. | Altitude: Namche Bazaar -3438 m. | GPS DATA
Today is a long but scenic descent as you retrace your steps through Pangboche and Deboche, with beautiful views of Ama Dablam and the surrounding peaks almost throughout the trek. You’ll pass through Tengboche, where you can stop for a tea break and visit the famous monastery if you missed it earlier.
Continue the trail through rhododendron forests and cross several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River before making the final climb back to Namche Bazaar. Reaching the bustling mountain hub after days in remote high-altitude villages feels rewarding – celebrate with a good meal and some well-earned rest.
Trek Distance: 16 km approx. | Trek Duration: 7-8 hrs approx. | Altitude: Namche Bazaar -3438 m.| Lukla– 2840m. | Phakding – 2600m. | GPS DATA
Your final trekking day begins with a long descent from Namche, taking you back through pine forests and across the iconic suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River one last time. Pass through Phakding and several charming villages, greeting locals and fellow trekkers along the way.
Although it’s mostly downhill, the trail has a few short ascents that will test your tired legs before finally reaching Lukla.
